How to Add a White Background to Your Passport Photo Online

A cream wall or blue shirt background can get your UPSC or PAN photo rejected. Here is a fast, private fix before you resize and compress.

What counts as “white background”?

Portals want a plain, uniform white or off-white area behind the head and shoulders — no furniture, no patterns, no shadows on the backdrop. Face should be 70–80% of the frame with neutral expression.

Online workflow (no Photoshop)

  1. Use the white background photo maker to composite your image on #FFFFFF.
  2. Convert to JPG if needed via convert to JPG.
  3. Resize with passport photo maker (3.5×4.5 cm) or UPSC resizer.
  4. Compress to the portal KB limit (e.g. 20KB or 50KB).

For professional results, shoot against a physical white sheet first — digital white fill works best on PNGs with transparency or lightly edited indoor photos, not heavy shadows.
