Make Any Scanned Document Searchable and Selectable
Paper documents that have been scanned are just image files — they contain no machine-readable text. This means you cannot search for a word, copy a sentence, or have a screen reader interpret the content. Our OCR PDF Maker uses Google's open-source Tesseract engine (compiled to WebAssembly) to read every word and embed an invisible, perfectly positioned text layer over your original image.
How It Works in 3 Steps
1. UploadUpload a scanned image (PNG/JPG) or an existing non-searchable PDF.
2. OCRTesseract.js reads every character and records exact bounding box coordinates.
3. Downloadpdf-lib stitches the original image with an invisible text layer into a new PDF.
Frequently Asked Questions
A searchable PDF contains two layers: a visible image layer (your original scan) and an invisible text layer placed on top. When you open it in Adobe Reader or Chrome and press Ctrl+F, you can search for words and the text cursor will jump to those exact spots.
